Hi, my name is Shawn Lovely and I working towards improving CCSD from a different perspeective.
My husband Wayne, our two children and I are from Michigan. We are parents of a CCSD graduate and a 7th grade student. During our years here, the community has been welcoming and kind. Mount Pleasant schools have provided strong support for our kids.
The ideologies that have divided the Charleston County School District has been something that I’ve been concerned about. I see how it is affecting the students, the parents, and our public schools.
I hope to restore confidence in the CCSD School Board by being open minded, transparent and objective about district issues.

Let’s turn the page towards a better CCSD
Connect. Bridge. Grow.
Connect.
We each have different ideas about what a good quality education means. My goals to create connections with the educational community would be to build a respectful platform for group discussions. To take into account the different perspectives and consider them when working towards a final outcome.
Establishing these connections will hopefully lead to bridges being rebuilt where they were burned by the divisions in our community.
Bridge.
To reestablish a connection between vastly differing opinions is challenging. Compromise and respect have to be on the table as tools for negotiating the difference in what a quality education means. Whether it's raising teachers' pay, or making policy changes to accommodate the views of a few people, welcoming differences in a safe space is essential.
Positive and inclusive growth will thrive as bridges are built. Coming back together as a community is essential In continuing to grow the many ideals of what a quality education is.
Grow.
The essential questions are the different facets of our educational community thriving? Do students have a safe place to learn and the tools necessary to succeed? Do teachers have the support they need from leadership? Do parents feel heard when reaching out over concerns for their student?
With a safe space for debate, people can express themselves freely. The only way to continue to grow the quality of our school district is to connect, bridge, and grow.
